Boundary Wall Restoration

9/13/2020

In August 2020, the Trustees launched a public appeal for donations to raise funds to repair and restore the boundary walls that encompass the site, which have been in need of attention. We're so pleased to see so many people from all over the world, with or without connection to the site, give generously for us to achieve this goal. Details are here if you would like to contribute.

I and a group of friends wish to help maintain and beautify the grave ground on a voluntary basis. Please let me know.
Thanks,
Reggie Lee

Thanks for your work. Too bad the only Jews in the country are dead ones. Let’s hope relations between Malaysia and Israel improve in the near future.

I visited on 24 Apr 25 and met the Indian caretaker whose name is Shiva Samy. How is he paid for this work in maintaining the cemetry?

Dear Trustees of the Penang Jewish Welfare Board,

Shalom!

My name is Shuye, and I am an international student currently studying in Kuala Lumpur. I had the pleasure of visiting the Penang Jewish Cemetery this afternoon, October 20, 2025.

The cemetery looks different from the photos I have seen online. I noticed some signs of renovation, but overall, the cemetery now appears older and may require further maintenance.

I was glad to meet the gravekeepers, especially Mr. Sami, who kindly spoke with me. Unfortunately, our conversation was challenging due to language barriers, as he does not speak much English and my Malay is limited. With the help of a translator and GPT, we managed to communicate.

As someone deeply interested in Jewish culture and history, I would be grateful to get in touch with you. I would also be happy to offer assistance or support during my stay in Malaysia.

You can reach me via WhatsApp at +60 102725469, or on Instagram. I would greatly appreciate it if other local people or anyone with similar interests could contact me.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response and to connecting with others who share these interests.

Best regards,
Shuye
